Buffalo Brass Big Bands
In 1985, the Buffalo Brass Big Band made it’s debut at the back room of Nietzche’s in
Allentown. The Buffalo News reported it as a “phenomenon”, and it truly was. Many of
the great touring jazz musicians from Western N ew York converged back on Buffalo,
and the band was born. In 1988, the band recorded it’s one CD, “It’s Time”.
In the years since, the band has gone through several transformations, leading to the
current version of the band that has been on the scene for several years, still playing
original arrangements and compositions specially designed for these great Buffalo jazz
musicians.
On June 13th, you can hear the current Buffalo Brass, featuring vocalist Heather Holden,
and a host of jazz greats from Western New York, including Sal Andolina, Kelly
Bucheger, Harry Fackelman, Mark Filsinger, Jim Bohm, and Dan Hull, to name a few.
And sharing the stage with them that evening will be, for the first time in nearly 20 years,
the original Buffalo Brass Big Band. Several of the original members are returning to
Buffalo for this event, including Jeff Jarvis, Fred Secor, and the original Buffalo “road
musician”, Jim Tudini. And none other than iconic drummer, Louis Marino is back
behind the drum set.
It’s going to be a great night of original big band jazz with two great versions of the
Buffalo Brass Big band, led by trombonist and arranger, Phil Sims.
