SUMMARY:The Outcrops - Sportsmens Stage
DESCRIPTION:The Outcrops \nSaturday\, September 27\, 2025 8pm $10 \nout·crop /ˈoutˌkräp/ : an outstanding rock formation \n \nDeep in the woods of Northern New Jersey\, The Outcrops have emerged as a force to be reckoned with. This tight-knit group of musicians weaves together the soulful sounds of blues\, the infectious rhythms of funk and soul\, and the electrifying energy of rock’n’roll\, creating a sonic experience that had them named “Band of the Year” (Aquarian\, 2020). \n \nAt the core of The Outcrops are the dynamic duo of Bryan Schroeder and Cassidy Rain. Bryan\, with his searing lead guitar\, effortlessly weaves intricate melodies that fall somewhere between the soulful prowess of Derek Trucks and the transcendent vibes of Jerry Garcia. Cassidy brings real and raw powerhouse vocals that fans have compared to artists like Bonnie Raitt\, Susan Tedeschi\, & Grace Potter\, as well as her rhythmic guitar work that is in constant conversation with the band. \n \nMax Adler\, a Montclair University music graduate\, found his home behind the drum kit\, driving the band’s infectious grooves. Qaasim Munoz holds it down on the bass guitar adding a unique flavor to the band’s sonic tapestry. \n \nThe Outcrops’ journey has been marked by milestones\, such as sharing the stage with acts like The Outlaws\, Three Dog Night\, Alexis P. Suter\, Kat Wright\, and King Solomon Hicks\, to gracing the lineups of festivals such as Rock\, Ribs\, & Ridges\, the Anglesea Blues Festival\, Musikfest\, and Meeting of the Minds. Their performance earned them 1st place in the 2nd Annual SOPAC Blues Challenge back in 2017. \n \nCASSIDY RAIN – LEAD VOCALS / RHYTHM GUITAR \nCassidy’s musical journey began before she can remember – she was singing and memorizing songs when she started talking. At the age of 5\, her parents got her a tape recorder that she used constantly to record songs she heard and sang. By the time she was 10 years old\, she had already started writing her own songs. At 14\, she picked up the acoustic guitar and it became her fondest companion; she took it everywhere with her – to school\, to the beach\, everywhere. Her guitars have their share of knicks and bruises from their adventures. \n \n \nBRYAN SCHROEDER – LEAD GUITAR / BACKUP VOCALS \nBryan’s journey in music began early as well\, attending his Dad’s band’s shows from a very young age. There are photos of him and his cousin on stage with his Dad’s band\, toy guitars in hand. However\, Bryan’s first musical venture was in drumming\, and he played drums for years before learning to play guitar. He began to really hone in on the guitar when he moved to California and was able to spend hours playing every day. \n \nMAX ADLER – DRUMS / BACKUP VOCALS \nMax rounds out The Outcrops rhythm section with a fluid groove that carries the band along like the ebbs and flows of a river. Like the great blues\, soul and rock bands of the 60’s and 70’s\, his style has a foundation in Jazz. Max was a student of the Jazz program at Montclair State University in New Jersey and he uses his knowledge and skills to add flavors and dynamics\, imprinting his style on the band’s sound. \n \nQAASIM MUNOZ – BASS GUITAR \nQaasim\, otherwise known as “Q”\, adds a uniquely funky & jazzy style of playing to The Outcrops. Besides playing music\, Q is also a professional fine artist.

SUMMARY:Sarah Borges - At The Cave
DESCRIPTION:The Cave presents \nSarah Borges \nFriday\, September 19\, 2025 8pm \n$15.00ad/$20.00door \n \n \n \nOne way or another\, Sarah Borges connects with casual mastery. Whether it’s with the comrades she’s collaborated with over nearly 20 sparkling years of music-making\, or the vivid portraits of people’s lives – and occasionally her own – she’s sketched in scores of emotionally resonant songs. But most of all\, Borges has built a loyal following by connecting\, through her own charismatic\, down-to-earth spirit\, with her audience – whether they’re longtime fans from back when she broke through with her terrific “Silver City” debut in 2004\, or newcomers just now joining the party. \n \nFast forward to the early months of 2020\, when the life-altering global pandemic hit populations hard. Closer to home\, the crisis not only suddenly\, jarringly halted performers touring or playing shows large or small\, but also quashed the creative chemistry that comes from musicians getting together and jamming in the same room. As an artist whose lifeblood flowed from these real-life exchanges of camaraderie and community\, the Boston-based Borges was faced with perhaps the most daunting question of her professional career: How to connect and continue as a vital and viable working artist amid a frightfully uncertain future fraught with unknowns. \n \nThat’s where the aptly named brand new album\, “Together Alone\,” comes in. In a true-life twist on the old saying\, “when life gives you lemons …”\, a homebound Borges did the one thing she knew how to do better than almost anything else. She picked up her guitar and started writing songs such as “Wasting My Time\,” which serves as a thematic linchpin of sorts for the new album. Set to a measured\, ruminative gait and carried on dark currents of electric guitar and Hammond organ\, the lyrics feel like a gathering storm. “It’s been awhile now since I’ve seen my friends / Don’t know when I’m gonna see ‘em again\,” Borges sings with the kind of pensive ache her twang and torch-lit voice was born for. “Without them around / It’s harder to pretend that I know where I’m going.” With the new normal being an isolating life in lockdown limbo\, the song seems to wonder whether time\, in this context\, is actually wasting us\, rather than the other way around. \n \nIt was\, for Borges\, a scary proposition. But the solitary confinement that necessitated writing alone also felt liberating. “I think my self-editing tool is always fierce\, and it’s what prevents me from being more prolific\,” Sarah says. “I feel like I’m always writing in blood\, like I have to stick to what I wrote the first time. But when you’re home alone\, and it’s a pandemic\, and you don’t know if anyone will ever even hear the songs\, all bets are off. You can write what you want and feel free to cross it out as many times as you want.” Even the job Borges took as an airport courier during the pandemic to keep the bills paid and home hearth burning proved creatively useful. The temporary gig translated into a boisterous new track\, namely the lighthearted rave-up\, “She’s A Trucker\,” based on the multi-Boston Music Award winner’s four-wheeling across state lines\, carrying occasionally strange cargo. Recently\, “I drove to Albany to deliver an airplane engine piece\, and another day it was ocular tissue – totally weird\, random stuff\,” she says with a laugh. “But all that time\, I was thinking about my music. With anything you love to do\, you always have to find a way forward if you can.” Besides\, she adds\, “there aren’t many lady truck driver songs\, so I thought I’d try my hand at one.” \n \nSpeaking of hands\, Sarah received a huge one in the person of her longtime mentor Eric “Roscoe” Ambel\, the venerable producer and guitarist who’s played with everyone from Joan Jett & The Blackhearts to Steve Earle and The Dukes. More recently\, Ambel’s been Sarah’s band mate and co-conspirator in addition to his usual job running his Cowboy Technical Services Recording Rig studio in Brooklyn\, NY. “Sarah and I had just come back from an incredible musical experience on the ‘Outlaw Country Cruise\,’ in February [2020]\, ” recalls Ambel of the traveling multi-artist\, fan-filled getaway. But as the pandemic permeated life and gigs were canceled\, the water-bound jaunt started to feel like it was the last good time anybody was going to have for a very long time. To get a sense of just how good a time was had\, check out the rollicking new tribute to the cruise\, “You Got Me On The Boat\,” a sunny slice of hedonistic escapism co-written with Sarah’s boyfriend\, Bottle Rockets bassist Keith Voegele\, who contributes bass and vocals across several of the album’s tracks. \n \nThat all changed when the state’s powers-that-be locked down the studio. With the pandemic scuttling any chance of working live at CTS\, the two were forced to brainstorm what Ambel amusingly refers to as the “MacGyver Method” of recording songs\, referencing the hit ‘80s TV series. Except that the idea involved a hell of a lot more than a rubber band\, stick of gum\, and strategically employed paper clip to escape the clutches of the villainous COVID-19. Here’s how it worked: One by one\, Borges would send along her home-recorded guitar and vocal demos – with Sarah singing into her iPhone\, and utilizing her clothes closet as a vocal isolation booth – to Ambel’s home recording setup. He’d listen carefully to the rudimentary tracks\, and then sort out who in his musical Rolodex might play what\, where\, when\, and how. The tricky part\, Ambel says\, was that “I had to think of not only great players\, but great players that could do a very good job recording themselves at home.” \n \nAmong those ready\, willing\, and able was Voegele\, residing in Springfield\, Illinois. Another was Keith Christopher\, Ambel’s longtime Yayhoos band mate currently playing bass with Lynyrd Skynyrd\, and living in upstate New York. A talented trio of drummers scattered from New York to Nashville also sent in dispatches. To ensure a rapport between far-flung musicians that felt organic\, “I got songs to them in a very specific building order. Basically\, we all went back to the ‘70s in recording style\, working on one song at a time until it was complete. Time and geography didn’t really matter\,” says Ambel. “It was exciting to be on the virtual receiving end of all these great songs and performances.” One unforseen benefit to recording remotely? “I’ve gotten a lot more confident playing solo through writing this record\,” says Borges. “Because I wrote on acoustic guitar\, the songs had to be able to stand on their own enough to make a demo. Plus\, my callouses have gotten much better!” \n \nGiven the circumstances\, it’s all the more remarkable that roughed-up romps like “Lucky Day” (a metaphorical love song about how the search for true romance can prove as elusive as a winning lottery ticket)\, have the bracing\, flesh-and-blood feel of like-minded musicians in sync. The chemistry doesn’t sound remote at all. Paramount to the entire enterprise\, of course\, were the fresh ideas Borges put to paper and the spirited music she envisioned in the first place. “Sarah’s a fearless writer and performer\,” says Ambel\, “and she’s a very good musician.” “It feels like me\,” says Borges\, who calls making the record nothing short of “a lifeline.” “The record feels really comfortable\, like a second skin already. It’s a good representation of who I am\, both musically and personally.” \n \nIn fact\, contemplative tracks such as “Something To Do” and “13th Floor” are candid reflections that cut to the marrow of who she was\, and who she’s always becoming. “On ‘13th Floor\,’ I was thinking about risk\,” says Borges\, “I’m still trying to sort out what six years alcohol-free means to me\, and I still draw on some of those feelings from ‘drunk-town’ for songs. And ‘Something To Do’ – recorded almost entirely during lockdown – harkens back to those days when calling a random number on a bar wall might have seemed like a good idea.” Ironically\, to find inspiration for the album’s final song\, “Together Alone\,” that had no lyrics or music attached to its title\, Borges and her band hit the road for a few select\, socially distanced dates in the Midwest this autumn. The shows\, her first in over a year\, proved challenging amid varying statewide vaccine or mask mandates (or lack thereof). But she didn’t return home empty-handed. \n \n“Together Alone\,” written across\, and about\, dividing distances on the road\, is a bittersweet lament of loss\, memory\, and separation rendered in waltz time. “It’s the little things I’m missing / Now that they’re gone\,” Borges muses over a mournful melody. “Lines across faces\, and photos from places / Our shadows growing long.” But as anyone familiar with Sarah’s songs knows\, genuinely soulful music that connects with us — and connects us to each other — can simultaneously steal\, and heal\, hearts. Ultimately\, if “Together Alone” carries any message or lesson\, it’s about finding the courage to face the hard times head on and not give in or up. And it’s about caring enough to bring the things that you miss\, and that matter\, back to life. –Jonathan Perry

Just his\nvoice and an acoustic guitar\, often giving insight into the songs he is singing. Christiana’s\nsongwriting influence is simply “life.” \n“I want to do songs everybody\, rich\, poor\, young\, old\, everybody in between can relate to\,” he\nsaid. “I’m not a super intellectual writer. SUMMARY:Buckwheat Zydeco\, Jr. wsg. Ten Cent Howl
DESCRIPTION:Sportsmens & The Big Easy in Buffalo NOLA Series present \nBuckwheat Zydeco\, Jr. \nwsg. Ten Cent Howl \nThursday\, September 4\, 2025 7pm\, 5pm Doors \n$15ad/$20door \n \nBuckwheat Zydeco Jr.‘s story is one of musical inheritance\, hard work\, and dedication to preserving the spirit of zydeco music. From a young boy learning the craft of music by ear\, to becoming a Grammy-winning artist\, he continues to make his mark on the world stage. With his band and his son by his side\, he is ensuring that zydeco music will continue to inspire and uplift audiences for generations to come. Buckwheat Zydeco Jr. was born into a musical family in Lafayette\, Louisiana\, a city deeply rooted in the sounds of zydeco and Creole culture. His father\, Stanley “Buckwheat” Dural\, Sr.\, was a legendary figure in zydeco music\, and Buckwheat\, Jr. was immersed in music from a young age. \n Following the death of his father in 2016\, Buckwheat Zydeco Jr. assumed the mantle of his father’s musical legacy\, continuing to lead the Ils Sont Partis Band. This band\, which was originally formed by Stanley Dural\, Sr.\, is a tribute to the vibrant tradition of zydeco and remains a vital force in spreading the genre’s infectious rhythms worldwide. They have become fesƟval favorites\, consistently performing with some of\nthe world’s biggest acts\, in a world seldom traveled by your typical “tribute” band. Black\nSabbitch were hand-picked by Sharon and Ozzy Osbourne to open the inaugural Ozzfiesta and\nby Dave Grohl to play Cal Jam with Foo Fighters and Iggy Pop\, aŌer which the FooFighters\nshared photos of Black Sabbitch saying “we were spellbound.”\nThey have played mulƟple headlining sets at Psycho Las Vegas and The Maryland Doom Fest and\nmost recently were chosen by Paul Stanley to play The 2022 Kiss Kruise. SUMMARY:Eddie 9V
DESCRIPTION:Funtime Presents & Sportsmens present \nEddie 9V \nSunday\, August 10\, 2025 7pm $25.00ad($28.50w/fee) $30.00 at the door \n5pm Doors \n \n \n \n \nAs far back as he can remember\, Capricorn Studios was calling Eddie 9V. As a kid scanning the\nsleeves of his favorite vinyl records\, this fabled facility in Macon\, Georgia\, was always the secret\ningredient\, adding a little grit and honey to every song born on its floor. Capricorn and the\nbands who blew through it urged the Atlanta guitarist to ditch school at 15\, play his fingers\nbloody throughout the south\, and turn apathy into acclaim for early albums Left My Soul in\nMemphis (2019) and Little Black Flies (2021).\nEddie spent his first quarter-century admiring Capricorn from afar. But in December 2021\, the\n26-year-old finally put his thumbprint on the studio’s mythology\, corralling an eleven-strong\ngroup of the American South’s best roots musicians to track his third album. “There was\noverwhelming excitement at being in such a legendary studio\,” he says. “But we hugged and\ngot right to work. Everyone was joyous\, loving\, and flat-out playing their asses off.”\nYou don’t come to Capricorn Studios for polish. Frozen in time since its opening day in 1969\, the\nmojo from sessions by giants like the Allman Brothers and Bonnie Bramlett still hangs in the air\,\nwhile the recording philosophy remains gloriously raw. That suited Eddie\, whose output has\nbeen celebrated for its warts-and-all snapshot of what went down. “In a world where everyone\nis trying to sound the best\, I’m trying to sound like me\,” he reasons. “I always want the listener\nto feel like they’re in the room with us. So I’d leave it in if a drum pedal squeaked or someone\nlaughed during a take on the Capricorn album. It’s our way of putting a stamp on the song.”\nEddie’s old-school ethos goes way back. Born Brooks Mason in June 1996\, he acquired his first\nguitar aged six\, “One of those with the speaker in it – the most bang for your buck\, y’know?”\,\nignored the prevailing pop scene at Oak Grove High School in favor of local heroes like Sean\nCostello and studied “older cats” like Muddy Waters\, Howlin’ Wolf\, Freddie King\, and Rory\nGallagher “to see what made them groove and tick.” His shoot-from-the-lip lyrics adds Eddie\ncame from family fish fries\, where his Uncle Brian “taught me to make people laugh\, how to\nhold an audience’s attention.”\nWhen Eddie infiltrated his home state’s live circuit – first with covers band The Smokin’ Frogs\,\nthen its more adept blues-rock offshoot\, The Georgia Flood – he quickly pricked up ears\neverywhere he played. His artistic vision became full realized when he killed Brooks Mason and\nadopted the solo moniker that promises an electrifying night out\, “Eddie 9 Volt”.\n“There are too many Joe Schmo r&b bands\,” he reasons. “I was on the road with another band\,\nand we were talking like mobsters. So we gave each other names – mine was Eddie.”\nAlready\, there has been massive acclaim for his early output\, with Left My Soul in Memphis\ndubbed “fresh and life-affirming” by Rock & Blues Muse and Little Black Flies praised by Classic\nRock as “the most instinctive blues you’ll hear all year.” But as the Capricorn sessions ticked\ncloser\, Eddie fused the nervous energy into his best songs yet. “Coming off a straight blues\nrecord\, I wanted to show people we’re more than that\,” he reflects. “I was listening to Muscle\nShoals and soul\, a lot of music recorded at Capricorn in the late-’60s too. So we spent way more\ntime crafting the new tunes. Each song took a week to write\, instead of five in one night like\nLittle Black Flies.” \n \n“Beg\, Steal and Borrow” is ballsy soul with Eddie’s spit flecking the mic. “Yella Alligator” is as\nswampy-sounding as the title\, with slide guitars lapping around cardboard-box beats. Bout To\n“Make Me Leave Home” is a propulsive shuffle\, Eddie’s vocal seemingly made up in the\nmoment. The gospel-touched “Are We Through” catches a breath before How Long drapes\nmellow organ over bone-dry riffs. “It’s Goin’ Down” fuses porch blues with psychedelic\nwoodwind\, while “Tryin’ To Get By” brings brassy strut while concealing lyrics from the\nperspective of a man on a downward spiral\, surviving on the crumbs of a love affair. “The lyrics\nand meanings of these new songs are way deeper\,” says Eddie. “Take the song “It’s Goin’\nDown”. It’s really about my struggle with alcohol\, the dangerous nightlife of bars\, and the drugs\noffered to you in the music industry. But then\, one of my favorite tunes\, “Yella Alligator\,” is\nabout a fictional psychedelic party in the bayou…”\nLikewise\, Capricorn is an album of thrilling musical contrasts. Bob Dylan’s “Down Along\nthe Cove” is a pugnacious blues-rocker\, followed by Khristie French’s gossamer lead vocal on\nthe spiritual Mary Don’t You Weep. Mellow Missouri is dusty as a great lost soul session\, while\nbrass punches through the glassy chords of “I’m Lonely”. Finally\, the album ends with Eddie’s\nlaughter as he realizes he has no more to give: “I gotta come out of this room…!”\nNever meet your heroes\, they say\, and many young artists have been overwhelmed by\nwalking the holy ground of their dream studios. At Capricorn\, Eddie 9V breathed in the history –\nbut the album he spat out is worthy of sharing the name\, standing shoulder-to-shoulder with\nthe studio’s greatest hits and taking music back to the golden age. “We made this record\,” he\nconsiders\, “the way they would have done in 1969

More recently\, the legendary Southern Rocker has gone on to release three more albums with Eflat Productions; “Deeper Shades of Blues” (2001)\, “Freestyle” (2003) and “Delta Breeze” (2013). \n \nIn addition to a successful solo career\, his uniquely recognizable guitar style can be heard daily on interactive games\, television and film. For example\, Les wrote and performed instrumental library music for television. This music can be heard on NBC\, ABC\, ESPN\, FOX SPORTS and E channel. These instrumentals are featured on such programs as “Friends”\, “Extra”\, “Wild On”\, “Search Party”\, and “Access Hollywood”. \n \nAs an in-demand guitarist\, playing and recording with some of Rock and Pop’s biggest names\, such as Steve Miller Band\, Boz Scaggs\, The Allman Brothers Band\, Dave Mason\, Stevie Nicks\, Maria Muldaur\, Cher and many more. \n \nAs a songwriter\, he co-wrote “Sister Honey” with Stevie Nicks\, which appeared on her “Rock A Little” album. He co-wrote “Sacrifice” with James “Curly” Cooke on Steve Miller’s “Book of Dreams” album and “Blue Eyes” with Ron Richotte on Steve Miller’s “Wide River” album. He wrote “Get It Right” which appeared on Dave Mason’s album\, “Old Wave on a New Crest” and “You Know It” from Cher’s “Black Rose” album. His association with Cher led him to an acting part\, as the guitar playing biker character\, Bone\, in the movie “Mask”\, (also starring Sam Elliott). Three of his songs\, “Because She Wants To”\, “Trouble With the Law” and “Turk’s Blues” are in the movie. \n \nLes Dudek\, without question\, is and has been for a long time\, one of the most sought after session guitarists by demanding artists everywhere. He is well-known for the dueling guitar with Dickey Betts on the song “Ramblin’ Man” and the slide guitar on “Windows” from Steve Miller’s album\, “Fly Like an Eagle”. He is well remembered for the slide guitar heard on “Jump Street” from Boz Scaggs’ “Silk Degrees” album and appears on all the videos made for that album including “Lido Shuffle” and “Low Down”. \n \nLes Dudek is a real American treasure that is recognized and admired by his peers as a genuine talent\, a masterful musician and revered as a Guitar Legend to audiophiles and guitar aficionados. \n \nhttps://www.LesDudek.com/ \n \nKeep up with Les’ current events on the Tour Dates Page.

SUMMARY:Chuck Prophet and His Cumbia Shoes
DESCRIPTION:Sportsmens presents \nChuck Prophet and His Cumbia Shoes \nSunday\, July 20\, 2025 4pm \n$30.00 + Fees 2pm Doors \n \n \n \n \nWhen a stage four lymphoma diagnosis forced him off the road and into the hospital\, Chuck\nProphet didn’t know if he’d live long enough to see the end of the year\, let alone get back on\ntour.\n“I was going through a tunnel\,” he recalls. “It was dark. But I had music: music to play\, music\nto listen to\, music to get me out of my head. Music was my savior.”\nThat much is plain to hear on Wake The Dead\, Prophet’s extraordinary new album. Recorded\nwith band of brothers ¿Qiensave?\, the collection explores the world of Cumbia music\, which\nconsumed and comforted Prophet during his illness and subsequent recovery. The songs are\nintoxicatingly rhythmic\, all but demanding you move your body\, with arrangements that blur\nthe lines between tradition and innovation. There are flashes of rock and roll\, punk\, surf\, and\nsoul\, all filtered through the streets of San Francisco and wrapped up in the rich legacy of a\ngenre that traces its roots back to the jungles of South America.\nCaptured live in the studio\, Wake The Dead resumes Prophet’s streak of more than a dozen\ncritically acclaimed solo albums stretching all the way back to 1990\, when the California\nnative first shifted focus from pioneering neo-psych band Green on Red to working under his\nown name. Since then\, Prophet—who’s now in full remission—has earned raves everywhere\nfrom Rolling Stone to NPR\, landed songs in a slew of films and television shows\, and seen his\nwork covered by Bruce Springsteen\, Solomon Burke\, and Heart\, among others.

SUMMARY:Jim Lauderdale
DESCRIPTION:Sportsmens presents \nJim Lauderdale \nThursday\, July 17\, 2025 7pm \n$25.00 \n \n \n \n“Jim Lauderdale is a consummate entertainer\, a sharp dressed man as well\, a terrific songwriter and a great singer.”– George Strait \n\n\n\n\n“He’s my favorite part of Americana music” – Ketch Secor\, Old Crow Medicine Show \n“He’s a man of great style\, an exceptional songwriter and tremendous singer” – Elvis Costello \n“Jim Lauderdale could easily be called a renaissance man. He’s a great singer\, great guitar player and there’s no way you could miss his work as a songwriter.” – Ricky Skaggs \n\nAt any given time\, you’re likely to find Jim Lauderdale making music\, whether he’s laying down a new track in the studio or working through a spontaneous melody at his home in Nashville. And if he’s not actively crafting new music\, he’s certainly thinking about it. “It’s a constant challenge to try to keep making better and better records\, write better and better songs. I still always feel like I’m a developing artist\,” he says. This may be a surprising sentiment from a man who’s won two Grammys\, released 34 full-length albums\, and taken home the Americana Music Association’s coveted Wagonmaster Award. But forthcoming album Game Changer is convincing evidence that the North Carolina native is only continuing to hone his craft. \n\nOperating under his own label\, Sky Crunch Records\, for the first time since 2016\, Lauderdale recorded Game Changer at the renowned Blackbird Studios in Nashville\, co-producing the release with Jay Weaver and pulling from songs he’d written over the last several years. “There’s a mixture on this record of uplifting songs and\, at the same time\, songs of heartbreak and despair—because that’s part of life as well\,” he says. “In the country song world especially\, that’s always been part of it. That’s real life.” \n\nLauderdale would know: He’s been a vital part of the country music ecosystem since 1991\, when he released his debut album and began penning songs for an impressively long roster of country music greats. “When I was a teenager wanting to be a bluegrass banjo player\, I never would have imagined that I would get to work with people like Ralph Stanley\, Robert Hunter\, Loretta Lynn\, George Jones\, Emmylou Harris\, Elvis Costello\, Lucinda Williams and John Oates \,” he muses. “Getting to work with them inspires me greatly to this day\, and I know it always will.” \,” he muses. “Getting to work with them inspires me greatly to this day\, and I know it always will.” \n\nFrom rollicking guitar riffs on “That Kind of Life (That Kind of Day)” to the slow\, sweet harmonies of “I’ll Keep My Heart Open For You\,” Game Changer shows off Lauderdale’s ingenuity as a singer\, songwriter\, and producer—while reestablishing him as one of Americana’s most steadfast champions. “Country music is constantly evolving\, but I’ll always have a soft spot in my heart for steel guitar and a Telecaster\,” he says. “I have done my job on this record if people who love classic country feel like they can put it on\, or have it in their collection\, and it would fit right in.” \n\nRespecting the past doesn’t mean he’s not breaking new ground. “We’re All We’ve Got\,” a co-write with Mary Gauthier and Jaimee Harris\, offers a timely message about healing torn relationships at home and across the world. And “Friends Again\,” a grinning number about rekindling a friendship\, is fresh and forward-looking. At every turn\, Lauderdale’s collaborative spirit and genuine love for the creative process reveal themselves in thoughtful\, well-crafted songs sure to stand the test of time. “When everything works right\, it’s just magical to be able to hear them back\,” he says. “You feel\, at least for those three-and-a-half minutes\, like life makes sense.”

SUMMARY:Clare Maloney & The Great Adventure
DESCRIPTION:Sportsmens presents \nClare Maloney & The Great Adventure \nwsg \nSunday\, July 13\, 2025 4pm $15.00 \n \n \n New York-based rock & roll quartet Clare Maloney & The Great Adventure are pushing out past the safe waters of their harbor and into the great unknown of the open ocean on their sophomore record. Flood\, Fire & Honey takes the band and the listener on an electric rock odyssey where they encounter tremendous floods\, fires and disorienting rearrangements\, and find themselves asking the big existential questions. On the lead single and album opener\, “The Flood” (released May 15\, 2025)\, Maloney’s powerhouse\, opera-trained vocals soar alongside an improvised vocal and guitar duet and a thundering rock sound. Recorded live in one take\, the song sets the stage for the album’s sweeping tale of survival and renewal. \n Born from a long dark night of the soul\, Maloney reveals that Flood\, Fire & Honey was inspired by her struggles with depression and self reckoning. “Floods and fires became powerful metaphors for the internal storms I was facing\,” she shares. “They mirrored the destruction of everything I thought I knew about myself—and the painful but necessary process of sifting through the wreckage to understand what was worth rebuilding. The songs on this album became my way of expressing and making sense of that chaos\, of finding beauty in the breakdown\, and of charting a path to being a better\, stronger\, and more compassionate person.” \nSince their first album (Daybreaker\, 2022)\, the band has grown together. They wanted Flood\, Fire\, and Honey to convey this\, so they booked five consecutive days at a studio\, rented the apartment upstairs\, and resolved to get everything (including two unfinished songs) recorded in that time. Isolated and working on a short deadline\, the bandmates relied on each other for every aspect of the process. They brought prowess on their chosen devices: Clare Maloney and Nate De Brine on vocals and guitar; Caleb Estey on drums and vocals; and Russell Gottlieb on bass and banjos. Beyond that\, they brought knowledge and determination\, keeping an inner ear on the big picture and an outer ear on the fine details\, and stayed devoted to the underlying emotional current of the art. When it came time to hit record\, the band decided to record everything live to capture the magic of their live performance and the raw intensity of the new songs. The result is a thrilling five song concept album that traces the arc of the hero’s journey from the time the hero is faced with a devastating set back to their ultimate and triumphant return home\, beaten but not defeated\, worn but wiser. \nThe foursome developed their spellbinding live sound over the last few years by becoming a force on the touring circuit\, playing 250+ shows and opening for legends like Pat Benatar\, Los Lobos\, The Wailers\, and Kevin Bacon’s Bacon Brothers\, Donna the Buffalo\, Bailen and more. They will be releasing each song from Flood\, Fire & Honey throughout the summer of 2025\, one song at a time until the full album is out in fall 2025.
