Baptized By The Blaze was the story of Ramey’s journey through the fire\, a harrowing passage toward healing and empowerment. Villain Era is firmly rooted in her own reckoning; it doesn’t ask for permission\, it kicks the door wide open. \n“This album is the ‘healed’ me\,” Ramey says. “I didn’t know how to have boundaries because I was such a people pleaser. When you live your life that way\, you lose sight of who you really are. I’ve spent the last few years finding my authentic self\, reclaiming my identity. The title track\, ‘Welcome To My Villain Era\,’ is me saying I’m not going to suffer fools anymore. I’m not compromising anymore. If my boundaries offend you\, I’ll happily play the villain in that story.” \nArmed with that conviction and a new batch of songs\, Ramey left the South for the first time to record in Los Angeles with two-time Grammy-nominated producer Eric Corne. Together\, they built a soundscape as cinematic as it is cathartic. Ramey\, whose fans have taken to calling her “The Woman In Black” and “the Wednesday Addams of country music\,” told Corne she wanted the album to sound like Johnny Cash and Loretta Lynn had risen from the grave to score a Quentin Tarantino film. Corne assembled a powerhouse band to help her pull it off\, including Ted Russell Kamp (Shooter Jennings) on bass\, Eugene Edwards (Dwight Yoakam) and Chris Masterson (Steve Earle\, The Mastersons\, The Wallflowers) on guitar\, Eleanor Whitmore (Steve Earle & The Dukes\, The Mastersons) on fiddle\, Kevin Brown on drums\, Boo Bernstein (Emmylou Harris\, Dwight Yoakam) on pedal steel\, and Haley Spence Brown (The Doohickeys) on backing vocals. \n“He didn’t just listen to me\, he heard me\,” Ramey says of Corne. “The musicians were equally respectful of what my vision was\, and they went above and beyond. It was the most collaborative\, emboldening recording experience I’ve ever had.” \nThe result is Villain Era: ten spaghetti western–meets–honky tonk vignettes\, penned solely by Ramey\, laced with grit\, gallows humor\, and emotional precision.  \nWith the first notes of opener “We Ride at Dawn\,” Ramey puts her boots on the ground and reclaims her territory. A callback to “King of the Ashes” from her 2020 LP Shallow Graves\, the song rises from the rubble with reverb\, ghostly pedal steel\, and the promise of revenge from the women who survived. On “Scattered and Smothered\,” Ramey trades the battlefield for a Waffle House booth at 2 a.m.\, where heartbreak meets hangover in a haze of regret. “Well I’m a hot mess\, I must confess / Ever since he brought up takin’ next steps / And my drunk ass needs some hash browns and scrambled eggs\,” she sings\, As patrons fight\, chairs fly\, and late-night shenanigans ensue in the background\, our heroine is lost in thought\, hoping the grease soaks up the memories of the night she’s attempting to put in her rearview.  \nThe tone turns bittersweet on “Crying in My Lingerie\,” a deceptively upbeat breakup song that captures the loneliness of a woman who’s realizing her marriage is over. Doing her best to fan the flames of something long since gone\, she drowns her sorrows in boxed wine. Dressed in the now-meaningless symbols of desire and devotion\, she realizes she’s become a divorcee in waiting.  \nThroughout Villain Era\, Ramey explores what it means to step fully into oneself after years of just trying to survive. “There’s a lot of freedom in knowing yourself\,” she says. “It makes you feral. But in these times\, joy is resistance. We should be having some fun\, too.”  \nSaving Country Music once wrote\, “Many of the women in country music these days love to sing about lighting stuff on fire to symbolically tease their empowerment. With India Ramey\, you think she’ll actually haul off and do it.” It’s an apt description for an artist who doesn’t just tell stories of strength\, she lives them out loud. \nWith six studio albums under her belt\, Ramey continues to be one of country music’s fiercest truth-tellers. Her 2017 breakout Snake Handler landed her on Rolling Stone’s “10 New Country Artists You Need to Know.” Her 2020 “post-apocalyptic western” album\, Shallow Graves\, earned international recognition\, debuting at #6 on the Euro Americana Chart. Then came 2024’s Baptized By The Blaze\, a searing chronicle of her battle with a dependence on prescribed medication and PTSD stemming from childhood trauma. Like a phoenix rising from the ashes\, she sang on the title track\, “Yesterday I set myself on fire / With my own hands I built that funeral pyre / I built it so high the flames touched the sky / And now I am alive because I died.” \nNow\, with Villain Era\, India Ramey stands unapologetically in her power\, delivering songs that cut deep and laugh loudly\, songs that balance the weight of lived experience with the freedom of release.

The Austin Music Hall of Fame inductees began their wild ride back in 1984 – playing a psylocybin fueled (sour) mashup of punk\, hard country\, glam and psychedelic rock while gaining a reputation as one of the foundational acts of the cowpunk genre. Four decades on – led by original vocalist and co-founder Jeff Smith (the other four members from the band’s debut are all now deceased) alongside decade plus Hickoids Lance Farley (drums)\, Tom Trusnovic (bass)\, Cody Richardson (guitar) and relative newcomer at eight years Harvey McLaughlin (guitar and keyboards)\, the band continue to ply their trade delivering a singular\, rowdy melange of Southern styles they refer to as “roadhouse punk” – at home on any stage and rendered with ample musical chops and showmanship. The upcoming tour will feature unique set lists each night called on the spot and culled from across the band’s catalog alongside unreleased tunes and audience faves. \nThis will be the band’s first excursion to the Upper Midwest in almost 35 years\, and their first shows in the Canadian province of Ontario as well as several other cities along the way. Since reforming in the latter half of the 2000s the band has played north of 800 shows across half the United States (including Alaska)\, Canada and ten European countries at punk clubs\, blues and country bars and festivals.

A patron saint of broken hearts on the mend\, Sweeney comforts the rest of us by being honest with herself––and everybody else. She is her generation’s sly country conscience\, warm but stubborn\, sad but funny\, rowdy but thoughtful. \n“I am so glad I’ve been able to get this far in this business and still hold my music values\,” Sweeney says. “Being independent has given me the freedom to do more of what I want.” \nFor Sweeney\, doing what she wants has meant crafting smart honky tonk for about two decades. “I really do love country music\,” she says. “For me\, it’s the stories and hooks.” Her new album Rhinestone Requiemis a delectable testament to that love\, brimming with achingly pretty melodies and grown-up storytelling. It’s also an expertly assembled grab bag of the traditional song structures that have built country music\, one three-quarter whirl at a time. \nIf anyone has the bona fides to be country music’s loving\, defiant standard-bearer\, it’s Sweeney. In addition to releasing 5 critically acclaimed albums since her 2006 debut Heartbreaker’s Hall of Fame\, she has become a trusted song curator and advocate for other artists as the host of her SiriusXM shows The Sunny Side of Life on Outlaw Country and Sunny Side Up on Willie’s Roadhouse. Sweeney keeps adding new feathers to her signature hat: She and her longtime guitarist Harley Husbands produced Rhinestone Requiem and are working as producers on additional projects. “We both have very strong points and very strong opinions\,” Sweeney says of Husbands with a laugh. “But we work very well together.” \nBorn in Houston and raised in East Texas\, Sweeney made her home the road before settling down in the hills of Hendersonville\, Tennessee\, a couple of years ago. The release of Rhinestone Requiem represents another milestone. “This is the first time I’ve made a record when I don’t have relationship problems\,” Sweeney says\, smiling. “My last album\, ‘Married Alone\,’ was made right after my divorce. I’ve lived some life. Not all of it’s been pretty. But I feel like that’s what makes really good music.” \nSweeney takes her calling as friend to the hurt and alone seriously––and Rhinestone Requiem shines because of it. Recorded at Tommy Detamore’s Cherry Ridge Studio in Floresville\, Texas\, the album is a compelling snapshot of an artist who knows who she is and what she loves. “I really wanted this album to be a mixture of all the old styles of country music: Jerry Lee Lewis\, Waylon Jennings\, Loretta Lynn\,” Sweeney says\, ticking off a list of some of her idols. “I make music for myself and hope other people like it.” \nIndeed\, the specter of Lewis looms large from the jump\, as the album kicks off with “Find It Where I Can\,” the sauntering\, boozy warning shot recorded by The Killer\, as well as other giants including Waylon Jennings. Sweeney discovered the song during a late-night YouTube deep dive into videos of Lewis and Mickey Gilley hammering away on dueling baby grands. “You know\, they’re cousins\, and their grandmother taught them how to play piano––that’s why their playing style is so similar!” Sweeney says\, relishing the backstory. “And when I heard this song\, I knew I had to record it. It’s not like anything else I have\, and it’s just so fun to sing and play.” \nJubilantly wry “Diamonds and Divorce Decrees” traces the ruins after a marriage ends\, cataloging the pain but looking stubbornly toward happiness. Sweeney has been playing the song live\, and has been struck by how strongly audiences have responded. “One night after we played it\, a guy came up to the stage and said\, ‘I have three days until my divorce is final\, and this song made me know everything is going to be fine\,’” Sweeney says. \nWritten with dear friend and frequent collaborator Brennen Leigh\, “Traveling On” is a superbly crafted heartbreaker showcasing the devastating power of Sweeney’s voice. Written with Ben Chapman and Erin Enderlin\, “Is Tonight the Night (I Make You a Memory)” starts off slow and sad\, before speeding up into a bouncy\, steel-laced shuffle worthy of The Mavericks. Another Enderlin and Sweeney collaboration with the addition of Gary Nicholson\, “I Drink Well with Others” is a winking dancehall duster\, while “As Long as There’s a Honky Tonk”––written with Buddy Owens and Galen Griffin––is a swaggering\, piano-soaked proclamation of independence. \nOne of only two album tracks Sweeney didn’t have a hand in writing\, “Last Hard Bible” nods to the whimsical grit of its writer and original recording artist\, Kasey Chambers\, as Sweeney steers the song firmly into saloon-worthy territory. Chambers and her brother\, Nash\, provide harmonies on Sweeney’s track. When Sweeney joins Chambers for shows in the summer of 2025\, it will mark a full-circle moment for Sweeney\, who is a longtime fan of the Australian singer-songwriter. \nWith crying steel\, “Waiting for a Reason to Stay” tearfully harnesses the potential of conversational songwriting. “I’ve always wondered what was wrong with me\,” Sweeney sings\, opening the song with gut-wrenching directness. What follows is a meditation on the days after you’ve decided to go––but haven’t left yet. “I’ve had records about the bad side of divorce\,” Sweeney says. “This is the light at the end of the tunnel.” Written with Owens and Monty Holmes\, album closer “Half Lit in 3/4 Time” is a masterclass in country songwriting\, as line after line pays tribute to honky tonk’s beloved instruments and golden standards. Featuring mournful fiddle\, “Houston Belongs to Me” already sounds like a classic\, as Sweeney’s resilient narrator lays claim to a hot\, complex city that she loves. “It’s healing: You’re taking ownership of where you are\,” Sweeney says. \nIt’s an idea Sweeney has embraced in various ways throughout her career: Lean into who and what you are––and revel in the liberation that brings. Her fierce independence has allowed her to speak to us with the care of a trusted confidant who sees our hurts and is rooting for us. “I feel like that’s what I grew up loving about music––I felt like I was their friend\,” Sweeney says. “I felt like they were talking––singing––to me.”

His major label debut\,\n1991’s Planet of Love\, opened the door to international touring and established him\nas an A-list songwriter on Music Row. His songs have been recorded by George\nStrait\, Patty Loveless\, George Jones\, the Chicks\, Old Crow Medicine Show\,\nLucinda Williams\, Charley Crockett\, Dave Edmunds\, Solomon Burke\, and many\nothers. Between 2004 and 2013\, Lauderdale wrote and recorded six albums with\nGrateful Dead songwriter Robert Hunter. His many other collaborators include\nBuddy Miller\, Elvis Costello\, Donna the Buffalo\, North Mississippi Allstars\, Po’\nRamblin’ Boys\, and Ralph Stanley. In 2016\, Lauderdale received a Lifetime\nAchievement Award from the Americana Music Association; he’s also won two\nGrammys in the Best Bluegrass Album category.

A\nmechanic lies among the spare parts on the floor of his garage and wonders if he can\nafford to keep his girlfriend. A troubled man sees hallucinations of a black dog and a\nwandering boy and hums “Weird Al” songs in his head. These are some of the strange\nand richly drawn characters who inhabit James McMurtry’s eleventh album\, The Black\nDog & the Wandering Boy. A supremely insightful and inventive storyteller\, he teases\nvivid worlds out of small details\, setting them to arrangements that have the elements of\nAmericana—rolling guitars\, barroom harmonies\, traces of banjo and harmonica—but\nsound too sly and smart for such a general category. Funny and sad often in the same\nbreath\, the album adds a new chapter to a long career that has enjoyed a resurgence as\nyoung songwriters like Sarah Jarosz and Jason Isbell cite him as a formative influence. \nAs varied as they are\, these new story-songs find inspiration in scraps from his family’s\npast: a stray sketch\, an old poem by a family friend\, the hallucinations experienced by\nhis father\, the writer Larry McMurtry. “It’s something I do all the time\,” he says\, “but\nusually I draw from my own scraps.” As any good writer will do\, McMurtry collects little\nideas and hangs on to them for years\, sometimes even decades. “South Texas Lawman”\ngrew out of a line from a poem by a friend of the McMurtry clan\, T.D. Hobart. Driven by\ngravelly guitars and a loose rhythm section\, it’s a careful study of a man whose feelings\nof obsolescence motivate him to take drastic action in the final verse. “Dwight’d stay at\nour house way back in the ‘70s\, when we lived in Virginia. During one visit he wrote this\npoem about his father’s attitude toward South Texas. He wrote it down on cardboard\,\nand I came across it recently. There was a line about hunting quail on horseback\, and\nthat was the seed of the song. I’ve lost the poem since then.” \nThe rumbling title track\, a kind of squirrelly blues\, features two mysterious figures who\nappear only to those slipping from reality\, yet it’s never grim nor especially despairing.\nInstead\, McMurtry namechecks a “Weird Al” deep cut and depicts a tortured soul who\ndoesn’t have to work a nine-to-five. He finds a defiant humor in the situation at odds\nwith the gravity of the source material. “The title of the album and that song comes from\nmy stepmother\, Faye. After my dad passed\, she asked me if he ever talked to me about\nhis hallucinations. He’d gone into dementia for a while before he died\, but hadn’t\nmentioned to me anything about seeing things. She told me his favorite hallucinations \nwere the black dog and the wandering boy. I took them and applied them to a fictional\ncharacter.” \nSoon McMurtry had enough of these songs for a new record. “It happened like all my\nrecords happened. It’d been too long since I’d had a record that the press could write\nabout and get people to come out to my shows. It was time.” What was different this\ntime was the presence of his old friend Don Dixon\, who produced McMurtry’s third\nalbum\, Where You’d Hide the Body?\, back in 1995. “A couple of years ago I quit\nproducing myself. I felt like I was repeating myself methodologically and stylistically. I\nneeded to go back to producer school\, so I brought in CC Adcock for Complicated Game\,\nand then Ross Hogarth did The Horses & the Hounds. It seemed natural to revisit Mr.\nDixon’s homeroom. I wanted to learn some of what he’s learned over the last thirty\nyears.” During sessions at Wire Recording in Austin\, McMurtry observed firsthand\nDixon’s grasp of digital recording technology as well as his instinctual approach to\ntracking. “What Don’s really good at is being able to sense when it’s happening. He can\nhear when it’s going down. If I’m producing myself and I don’t have him\, I have to do\nthree takes and then go in and listen to them. Listening to those three takes can take\nabout 15 minutes. So Dixon’s ability to know when it’s happening is crucial\, because it\ncan cut 15 minutes out of the day. That can really save a session\, because you only have\nso many hours in the day and only so much energy.\nWorking with McMurtry’s trusted backing band—Cornbread on bass\, Tim Holt on\nguitar\, Daren Hess on drums\, BettySoo on backing vocals—they worked to create\nsomething that sounds spontaneous\, as though he’s writing the songs as you hear them.\nThey were open to odd experiments\, weird whims\, and happy accidents\, such as the\ncover of Jon Dee Graham’s “Laredo” that opens the album. It’s an opioid blues:\ntestimony from a part-time junkie losing a weekend to dope. “We were playing a benefit\nfor Jon Dee at the Hole in the Wall there in Austin\, and we thought it’d be good if we\nplayed one of his songs. We rehearsed the song in the studio\, and it sounded good. The\ndrums were ready. We’d already got the sounds up. Might as well record it.” \n“Laredo” is one of a pair of covers that bookend The Black Dog & the Wandering Boy\,\nthe other being Kris Kristofferson’s “Broken Freedom Song.” “I did that one a few weeks\nafter our initial sessions. It was just me and BettySoo\, then we added drums and bass\nlater on. Kris had just passed not too long before we recorded it. I guess that’s why I was\nthinking about him.” Like Hobart’s poem\, it’s a bit of inspiration excavated from deep\nwithin his own life. “Kris was one of my major influences as a child. He was the first\nperson that I recognized as a songwriter. I hadn’t really thought about where songs\ncame from\, but I started listening to Kristofferson as a songwriter and thinking\, How do\nyou do this? He was actually the second concert I saw. I was nine. He and the band were \nhaving such a good time\, and that really solidified for me that this was what I wanted to\ndo with my life.” \nOnce the album was mixed\, mastered\, and sequenced\, McMurtry recalled a rough pencil\nsketch he had found a few years earlier in his father’s effects. It seemed like it might\nmake a good cover. “I knew it was of me\, but I didn’t realize who drew it. I asked my\nmom and my stepdad\, and finally I asked my stepmom\, Faye\, who said it looked like\nKen Kesey’s work back in the ‘60s. She was married to Ken for forty years.” The Merry\nPrankster’s—Kesey’s roving band of hippie activists and creators—stopped by often to\nvisit Larry McMurtry and his family. “I don’t remember their first visit\, the one\ndocumented in Tom Wolfe’s Electric Kool-Aid Acid Test. I was too young\, but I do\nremember a couple of Ken’s visits. I guess he drew it on one of those later stops. I\nremembered it and thought it would be the perfect art\, but I had to go back through the\nstorage locker. It’s a miracle that I found it again.”\nIt’s a fitting image for an album that scavenges personal history for inspiration. Even the\nsongwriter himself doesn’t always know what will happen or where the songs will take\nhim. “You follow the words where they lead. If you can get a character\, maybe you can\nget a story. If you can set it to a verse-chorus structure\, maybe you can get a song. A\nsong can come from anywhere\, but the main inspiration is fear. Specifically\, fear of\nirrelevance. If you don’t have songs\, you don’t have a record. If you don’t have a record\,\nyou don’t have a tour. You gotta keep putting out work.”

DESCRIPTION:Sportsmens presents \nYarn \nWednesday\, April 15\, 2026 7pm \n$25.00 \n \nYou might expect a band that calls itself Yarn to\, naturally\, tend to spin a yarn or two. “That’s what we do\, we tell stories\, live and in the studio\, truth and fiction”\,singer/songwriter Blake Christiana insists. “We don’t always opt for consistency. There’s a different vibe onstage from what comes through in our recordings. There’s a difference in every show as well\, you never know what you’re going to get.” \n  \nYarn’s ability to persevere ought to come as no great surprise\, especially for a band that spent two years honing their chops during a Monday night residency at the famed Kenny’s Castaway in New York’s Greenwich Village. In effect\, it allowed them to rehearse onstage\, mostly in front of audiences that often ranged in size from five to a hundred people on any given night. 10 studio albums followed — Yarn (2007)\, Empty Pockets (2008)\, Leftovers Part One (2009)\, Come On In (2010)\, Leftovers Part 2 (2011)\, Almost Home (2012)\, Shine the Light On (2013)\, This Is The Year (2016)\, and Lucky 13 parts 1 & 2 (2019). The band then took to the road\, playing upwards of 170 shows a year and sharing stages with such superstars as Dwight Yoakam\, Charlie Daniels\,  Railroad Earth\, Marty Stuart\, Allison Krauss\, Leon Russell\, Jim Lauderdale\, Leftover Salmon\, Amos Lee\, The Lumineers and many more. They performed at any number of prestigious venues — Mountain Stage\, Daytrotter\, the Orange Peel in Asheville\, the Fox Theater in Boulder\, the 9:30 Club in D.C\, South by Southwest\, the Strawberry Festival\, Rhythm and Roots\, Meadowgrass\, Floydfest and so much more\, eventually surpassing 1\,000 shows\, half a million miles and performances in nearly every state. They’ve driven nonstop\, made countless radio station appearances\, driven broken-down RVs and watched as their van caught fire. They’ve paid their dues and then some\, looking forward even as they were forced to glance behind. \n  \nIndeed\, the accolades piled up quickly along the way. They have landed on the Grammy ballot 4 times\, garnered nods from the Americana Music Association\, placed top five on both Radio and Records and the AMA album charts\, garnered airplay on Sirius XM\, iTunes\, Pandora\, CNN\, and CMT\, been streamed millions of times on Spotify\, Apple Music\, and Amazon\, and also accorded the “Download of the Day” from Rolling Stone. Shine the Light On found shared songwriting credits with John Oates (the Oates of Hall & Oates fame)\, and when audiences expressed their admiration\, it brought the band a populist cult following of diehard devotees\, popularly known as “the Yarmy.” \n  \nIt’s proof positive that the Brooklyn and Raleigh based band have made their mark\, and in dealing with their emotions\, scars and circumstances\, they find themselves in a position to share those experiences with others who have juggled similar sentiments. \n  \nAs Yarn look forward to their next 2 studio releases in 2023\, Blake looks to establish himself more as the songwriter he’s always been\, and not the pseudo bluegrass band\, bar band or jam band\, that Yarn often gets immediately lumped into.  Although all those elements of music exist in the Yarn catalogue and their live performances\, Blake’s number one priority is and always has been “the song”.  These next 2 releases are without a doubt Blake’s most personal\, polished\, and best of Yarn’s career so far. \n  \nThe beginning of the journey to these 2 albums began around April of 2022 when Blake booked a solo show at The Down Home in Johnson City\, TN (a nod to Townes Van Zandt’s 1986 live show there and ultimate release) with the intention of making a live record.  But he wanted it to be songs none of the fans and attendees had ever heard before. The problem was he hadn’t written most of them yet.  He was at his crossroads\, uninspired\, bored\, exhausted and fairly insecure about his entire career up to that point. But he got to work\, and got more inspired with each new song he wrote.  These songs all tell a story individually but they also tell a story as a whole\, a songwriter and musician ready to dive deeper into the music and the art for a greater result that he believes most anyone can appreciate\, relate to and enjoy.

In fact\, the man raised in Slaughters\, Kentucky uses a simple\, direct barometer to regularly check his muse: “If I can’t believe myself\, I won’t sing the song.” \n  \nThat brutally honest\, no-frills philosophy fits his Americana-fueled\, backwoods-grown merger of folk\, country\, and rock. It’s been at the backbone of nine studio albums\, beginning with 1998’s acclaimed self-titled debut and traveling through scorchers such as the one-two punch of 2001’s A Pretty Good Guy and 2003’s The Jealous Kind\, two demo-styled discs (2007’s The Trailer Tapes and 2009’s Trailer II)\, and the recent\, electric guitar-fortified opus\, 2019’s Almost Daylight. \nBecause Knight’s music has always sat outside of the mainstream\, onstage is where he makes his fans one show at a time. It is exactly where his searing tales of rural characters\, fringe survivors\, and tumultuous small-town existence find a captivated audience. A few edgy\, raw gems that immediately come to mind are “It Ain’t Easy Being Me\,” “Carla Came Home\,” “I’m William Callahan\,” and “Everybody’s Lonely Now\,” the latter two from Almost Daylight.  \n  \n“I’ve written songs about a lot of different things going all the way back to my first record\,” he says\, “and some folks still think ‘somebody kills somebody’ is all I write about.” \n  \nWhat Knight writes about is what he knows. He was raised in mining country\, so it’s no surprise that he would earn a degree in agriculture from Western Kentucky University and then work as a mine reclamation inspector and then miner’s consultant. But eventually his passion for writing songs and playing guitar\, both inspired by his musical hero\, the late John Prine\, led him to chronicle his surroundings in words and music.  \n  \n“I came from a big family and grew up in the woods six miles from two small towns\, so there were a lot of stories\,” he says. “There were always a lot of ideas to write about.” \nThose ideas have earned Knight praise from publications such as The New York Times (“the last of a dying breed…a taciturn loner with an acoustic guitar and a college degree”) and USA Today (“a storyteller in the best traditions of Mellencamp and Springsteen”)\, to name a few. Like his beloved Prine\, whom Knight duets with on Prine’s chestnut “Mexican Home\,” the cut that closes Almost Daylight\, Knight fits comfortably in Texas honky-tonks\, downtown Nashville venues\, and cool Manhattan rock clubs. \nIt’s no wonder that Knight has single-handedly scraped a reputation as one of America’s most uncompromising and respected singer-songwriters through 23 years and nine studio albums. He’s done this minus fanfare and artifice. The native son of Slaughters\, Kentucky (population: 238) only sings songs he believes. He also speaks only when he has a potent message. \n“If I don’t have something worth saying\, I’m not opening my mouth. I haven’t suited everybody\, but every time I get a new fan it tells me I’m doing something right. I think all my records have set a precedent\, if only for me at the very least. I just want people to think the latest one stands up to everything else I’ve done.”

Forming in late 2024 after connecting through the SUNY Fredonia jazz program\, the five-piece group frequently collaborates with fellow student musicians. In between performing at Buffalo Iron Works\, Domus Fare\, and notable campus events such as Fredchella and Amp It Up\, the group is currently working on their first full-length album Here is a write up of the event and bios  for Tina Williams\, Ed Croft\, and Tetris Effect .
